We are currently preparing for the visit on October 12 by RNC Chairman Reince Priebus, RNC Chief Counsel James Bopp, Jr., and several other members of the RNC national leadership team. RO Hong Kong will host an event at the China Club at 6PM on October 12 which will include cocktails and updates from the Chairman on the 2016 elections and Jim Bopp on the statues of the FATCA lawsuit. Details on how you can attend can be found here https://www.eventbrite.hk/e/cocktail-with-rnc-chair-reince-priebus-and-anti-fatca-lawyer-james-bopp-jr-tickets-18644502208.
In July, Republicans Overseas, acting through Republicans Overseas Action, Inc. successfully filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the Foreign Accounts Tax Compliance Act. This is a very big accomplishment for RO and Hong Kong chapter has been very involved at each step of this important action on behalf of the 8.6 million overseas Americans worldwide.
At the national level of the RNC, Republicans Overseas is making a difference. Between January of 2014 and now, RO has successfully passed three resolutions relating to overseas Americans.
Some of our board members also recently hosted a fund-raising video conference for Governor Jeb Bush and, although we endorse no specific candidate for the presidency, this was an excellent forum to communicate to Governor Bush the specific issues facing overseas Americans.
We also submitted recommendations to the Senate Finance Committee on tax treatment for overseas Americans. In my letter dated April 14, 2015, I recommended that congress fully repeal FATCA and move to residence based taxation.
